Who are We?

Fighting Forward is a Capstone Research project for the Ozanam Scholars Program at St. John’s University in Queens, NY.

The Ozanam Scholars Program is a 4-year social justice based scholarship program dedicated to helping students advance their understanding and passion for social justice through three core pillars: Vincentian Servitude, Global Citizenship, and Academic Scholarship.

Within this program, each scholar is responsible for choosing a social justice topic, completing a literature review on the topic, and creating and implementing a capstone project to help this issue in some capacity based on data they collected with the assistance of a faculty mentor. The faculty mentor for this project was Dr. William Chaplin, Chair of the Psychology Department at St. John’s University.

This project was created by Katherine Ross ‘20 with the intention of helping adolescents before reaching the point where suicide or fatal drug overdose could occur by providing information and resources tailored for this specific age group focusing on mental health and illness, substance abuse and addiction, and bullying.
